EHS Masterclass
KS2 English Success
KS2 English Success is designed to:
-
Strengthen core reading and writing skills
-
Build confidence before secondary school
-
Support preparation for SATs (where relevant), without overwhelming pressure
What Will Your Child Learn?
Within the KS2 Masterclass, your child will move through three flexible phases:
Phase 1: Confidence Foundations
We focus on the basics that make the biggest difference, such as secure sentence structure and accurate punctuation.
Reading work includes short comprehension tasks that build understanding, vocabulary and the ability to answer questions in full sentences. This phase is ideal for children who are anxious about English or still making frequent mistakes
Phase 2: Skills in Action
Here we apply those core skills to a wider range of texts and tasks, working on:
-
Longer reading comprehension, including inference and explaining answers
-
Paragraphing and organising ideas clearly
-
Creative and non-fiction writing (stories, descriptions, letters, reports)
-
Spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) in context, not just as isolated exercises
The aim is to help children feel more confident tackling typical upper‑KS2 tasks and to develop more detailed, accurate writing.
Phase 3: Secondary - Ready (and SATs Support)
In this phase, I work on preparing children for the step up to secondary school and, where appropriate, support them with SATs.
This involves practising SATs style reading questions and SPaG tasks in a calm, structured way, reading longer texts and writing for longer periods and focusing on clear, organised answers.
As with all EHS Masterclasses, children move through these phases at their own pace. Some will stay in the same phase for more than one block; others move on more quickly.
The phases give us a clear roadmap, but I always adapt the work to your child’s needs, confidence and school expectations.
