GCSE English Success
GCSE English Success is designed to take your child from unsure and overwhelmed to confident and exam‑ready.
We work in 10 - 12 week blocks so we can set focused goals, review progress and adjust the plan as needed.
Every student moves through these phases at their own pace: some will stay in the same phase for more than one block; others move on more quickly. The phases are there to give us a clear roadmap, not to rush your child.
Most GCSE students stay with me for at least one academic year and many work with me from Year 9 or 10 through to their exams.
What Will Your Child Learn?
All GCSE Masterclass lessons are personalised to your child’s exam board and their individual targets.
Within the GCSE Masterclass, your child will move through three flexible phases:
Phase 1: Confidence Foundations
Building or repairing the basics: core reading skills, understanding what exam questions are really asking and developing clear, well‑structured paragraphs. This phase is ideal for students who feel “stuck” at lower grades or who have lost confidence in English.
Phase 2: Skills in Action
In this phase, we apply the Phase 1 skills to real exam questions and past papers. We focus on exam technique, essay structure (PETER or PEEL) and improving structure, detail and timing for both reading and writing tasks.
We also work on key texts such as Macbeth, An Inspector Calls and A Christmas Carol, depending on your child’s course.
Phase 3: Exam Power & Practice
Phase 3 is focused exam preparation: timed papers, targeted feedback and strategies for managing nerves. We refine technique, develop key skills and make sure your child knows exactly what to do in the exam and how to use their time effectively.
